George Floyd Memorial Mural
Cultivating Peace through Community Art
Designed by Anna Katrina.
Implemented by mural team with Kenny McBride.
In the wake of George Floyd's funeral we volunteered to paint his memorial on the plywood installed at a local business, Verde Salon. The design was based off a protest sign I made for solidarity in his memory. I put the gold rays because he is becoming a beacon to turn our outrage into action, to end racism and police brutality.
Within 24 hours the mural was vandalized, prompting us to immediately repaint and graffiti protect it. Thanks to the community we were able to identify the vandal, who was arrested, charged with vandalism, and voluntarily exiled from Long Beach.
